Early 6:00 AM pickup from Islamabad. Drive north via Abbottabad and Balakot into the beautiful Kaghan Valley, following the Kunhar River through Shogran and Kiwai to Naran (2,500 m).

Arrive by late afternoon. Evening at leisure in Naran bazaar. Overnight Naran.

Full day around Naran. Jeep excursion to the legendary Saiful Muluk Lake (3,224 m) beneath Malika Parbat, then on to the meadows of Lalazar — the “Switzerland of Pakistan.”

Return to Naran by evening. Overnight Naran.

A spectacular long day. Cross the dramatic Babusar Pass (4,173 m) with sweeping Himalayan views, descend to join the Karakoram Highway at Chilas, then drive north past Nanga Parbat viewpoint and Rakaposhi to Karimabad, Hunza.

Arrive evening. Overnight Hunza.

Explore Karimabad — the 900-year-old Baltit Fort and the older Altit Fort above the river, plus the artisan bazaar. Sunset at Duikar / Eagle’s Nest for a panorama of Rakaposhi, Ultar and Ladyfinger peaks.

Overnight Hunza.

Drive up the KKH past the turquoise Attabad Lake and the iconic Passu Cones and Passu Glacier, continuing to the Khunjerab Pass (4,693 m) — the highest paved border crossing in the world, on the China frontier.

Return to Hunza for the night. Overnight Hunza.

Descend the KKH to Gilgit, then follow the mighty Indus River along the Skardu Road through deep rock gorges to Skardu (2,228 m), capital of Baltistan.

Arrive afternoon/evening. Overnight Skardu.

• Highlights: Indus Gorge, Skardu Road, arrival in Baltistan

Visit Lower Kachura (Shangrila) and Upper Kachura lakes, the Cold Desert sand dunes at Sarfaranga, and the ancient Kharpocho Fort above Skardu town.

Overnight Skardu.

4x4 day trip to Deosai National Park (4,114 m) via Sadpara Lake — vast wildflower plains, the beautiful Sheosar Lake, and possible Himalayan brown bear and golden eagle sightings.

Return to Skardu by evening. Overnight Skardu.

Begin the return journey. Drive down the Skardu Road to the KKH and continue south past Chilas towards Besham for a comfortable overnight, breaking the long distance back.

Final leg down the KKH along the Indus, rejoining the motorway network for a comfortable drive back to Islamabad. Door drop-off in the afternoon/evening.
