🛻 Vehicle Requirements for Northern Pakistan Routes

Not every northern Pakistan destination requires a 4x4 — but several absolutely do. This guide clarifies vehicle requirements by destination.

Routes Accessible by Sedan

Murree, Nathia Gali, Abbottabad, and most of the main Naran-Kaghan road up to Naran town are accessible by standard sedan in good weather.

Routes Requiring SUV (Non-4x4 OK)

Swat Valley up to Mingora and Bahrain is generally fine for SUVs without strict 4x4 requirement, though ground clearance helps on some sections.

Routes Requiring 4x4

The Karakoram Highway to Hunza and Gilgit, the road to Skardu, Babusar Top, and Kalam upper valley all require genuine 4x4 capability due to terrain, altitude, and occasional unpaved sections.

Routes Requiring 4x4 With High Clearance

Fairy Meadows jeep track, Deosai National Park, and Shounter Pass require not just 4x4 but vehicles with significant ground clearance — we use only the Prado TXL or Land Cruiser V8 for these.
